WELCOME TO SINABRO

Milwaukee's Third Ward, always buzzing with some of the city's best dining options, has long been a favorite of mine. This month, I finally visited Sinabro, the neighborhood's first Korean-focused eatery. Located in a space that holds fond memories of past favorites like Coquette Café and Fools Errand, Sinabro brings a fresh, exciting flavor to the area—and it did not disappoint.

FOOD

We began our meal with steamed King Dumplings, delivered in a charming bamboo basket. These tender, pillowy pockets of heaven, filled with delicately minced beef, were light yet satisfying—though a fried version is available, we were more than happy with the steamed option.

Next came the noodle dishes. I opted for udon with squid, and the squid's beautifully cut diamond shapes instantly caught my eye. The presentation and the perfectly cooked udon, sweet and mildly spicy sauce, crunchy carrots, and fresh zucchini made for a captivating dish. While the sauce became a bit too sweet for my taste, it still hit the right notes.

My dining companion opted for the udon with beef, a milder choice. This dish was a symphony of textures: tender beef, crisp vegetables, and a silky egg on top that brought it all together. As a delightful surprise, they were also offered a complimentary side-of-the-house kimchi—their first time trying this Korean staple—and they couldn't stop raving about it!

SERVICE

Despite some earlier reviews mentioning inconsistent or slow service, our experience was quite the opposite. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, attentive, and friendly. I especially appreciated how mindful our server was in accommodating my companion's spice preferences, ensuring their dish suited their palate. However, the pacing could have been better. The mains followed our dumplings almost immediately, leaving us feeling rushed to finish our starter before diving into the next course.

MEMORABILITY

The Third Ward's culinary scene is expanding, and Sinabro is a standout addition. The restaurant offers a comforting yet elevated take on Korean cuisine, with thoughtful presentation and a creative menu that enhances the overall dining experience. With more rice and noodle dishes to explore—and rumors of a great mimosa deal at lunch—I can't wait to return to Sinabro, a place that has quickly earned a spot on my 'must-return' list.
